Watchful Guardian

Malarrif, Snæfellsnes, Iceland

Watchful Guardian, is a thought provoking title for this image. The obvious (torn between two choices there I would think ) is the constant flashing light of the Malarrif lighthouse on the south westerly tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, in the shadow of Snaefelsjokul the nearly 5,000 ft dormant volcano of The Jules Verne Epic,“Journey to the centre of the earth”.

This night proved quite non eventful with no moon, which was planned ahead in the scheme of things…

The other watchful Guardian is the Aurora, or more correctly the magnetic field of the earth that manifests the Aurora 60 mile up in the stratosphere. This divinely inspired guardian protects us all from the harmful radiation that pours out of the sun, especially during solar flares.

I’ve seen the Aurora about 18 times now, and it’s a humbling experience, I guarantee that once seen it will haunt you forever!

This image at the foot of the lighthouse a couple of hundred yards from the sea, the onshore mist can be seen as the beams of the lighthouse pierce the gloom.

What can be seen is yours truly eating his way through 1/2lb Ritters hazelnut chocolate trying to fend off the -6°c temperature.
