Small Beginnings

Stokksness, Iceland

Occasionally you take a photo and like some popular song that doesn’t make it into the top twenty, but after repeated listening it grows on you! This is one such image I keep reviewing, it’s so low key, it’s baritone!

The Stokksness location is full of features, one of its foremost is its black ash dunes, tethered together with a hardy Tussock grass gradually forming dune clumps that captures additional ash to feed the growing colony of grasses.

There is on closer inspection a labyrinth of tendril like roots then spreads to form new colonies and a new Tussock.

Small beginnings, shows how quickly the grass can form an eddie current in the breeze, forming  ripples in the black ash, quite literally a new thread in the landscape.
