Normally with a telephoto lens , mountains at a distance become victims of detail robbing moist air . I was using in this image a 35mm equivalent of a 280mm Leica telezoom that I know works well at the long end, not all telezoom have this capacity.
This day was bone numbingly cold ,around -6°C . With a fair fall of snow ,and a northerly arctic wind to freeze out any vestige of humidity out of the atmosphere . Stapafell became spotlit with a beam of light from a winter sun peeping briefly out of the dark skies . This is the best of around 4 images ,with the spot lit area dead centre .
Stapafell is the small 1,736 foot basalt volcanic mountain located above the village of Arnarstapi , made famous as the last village the explorers visited before decending to the centre of the earth , through the crater of Snæfelsjökull ,in Jules Vernes famous epic .
