Without question this has to be my favourite moments ever, at least in the daylight. A sub zero northerly gale blew the tops of the waves into ethereal sculptures, look carefully and you can see faces ( I have one like this on my back room wall).
Vik is the most southerly point in Iceland, its westerly headland is made up of storm worn volcanic rock resembling gothic spires. The image is taken on the easterly side of the stack, somewhat in the shade, you can see the snow in the shadow top right. The sun had barely risen (10:30am), the photo was taken 2 hours later, just enough to beautifully backlight the plumes of sea water being pulled off by the storm force arctic northerly.
A moment I’ll never forget.
