800 res High street panoramic

The High street , from Kidsty Pike ,winter

One of my favourite ridge walks by far , but the weather has to be right ! A narrow ridge with hundreds of feet of drop either side , caution required here .

Top of the horizon is race course hill , literally that in past centuries and warmer seasons .
In earlier Millennia the high street was the causeway trod by Romans and Vikings carrying the bodies of their departed to consecrated ground at Pooley bridge in the north , a good deterrent against serious punch ups if you have to carry the corpse 14 miles !
Hunting ground of the lakes Golden eagle , fitting beautifully into this Craggy landscape .
