Dawn comes later in Iceland than most folk imagine , the day for that matter is very short lived, so dawn is a fleeting affair and if image making requires fleet of foot , but has the advantage of a late morning rise to capture the sunrise , a feature of photography in Iceland that I’m all in favour of !
This image was taken about 30 mins after sunrise ,(11:30am approximately) the side lit portion of the western flank of Snaefellsjokull exposes the detail of the last eruption of over 900 years ago . Those familiar with the novel of Jules Vernes ‘Journey to the centre of the earth ‘ can place themselves at the beginning of that adventure as professor Lindenbrook and his companions look up and view the journey ahead . This image is on my wall !
